Legal Fund Goal: $150,000
The Woodland Hills Landwise Alliance (WHLA) is neighborhood alliance dedicated to giving residential community members a voice in how our neighborhoods evolve and develop by working collaboratively and constructively with city officials, legislators, developers...and each other.
The developers of the proposed Woodland Hills Country Club project have sprung their plans on residents of the area without any thought or caring with respect to how this development will impact our community. They clearly do not value nor do they care about community input. Legislators in Sacramento have failed to consider the impact of recent legislation that was passed and lacks guardrails for neighborhoods like the Girard Tract. It is critical that areas in high fire and environmentally sensitive zones be disqualified from ministerial review.
We all know that the proposed development is not appropriate for ministerial review and must go through full planning review, resulting in an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which includes CEQA, Fire, and DOT reviews. Input from community members is crucial! It’s understood that many of you want this development stopped entirely, this may or may not not be possible. If not, we must use legal remedies at our disposal via our legal team to advocate for development with a GREATLY REDUCED COMMUNITY IMPACT. Community members must have a voice.
Our advocacy has the following focal points:
-
First and foremost, get this project disqualified from ministerial review!
-
Follow the planning and permit approval processes closely; legal action for any subsequent adjustments to the planned development that may still endanger and negatively impact our community.
-
Ensure that we are afforded community input for what the approved project will be (if it gets approved with adjustments in scope), minimizing impact to the existing community (density, open space, noise, dark skies, wildlife interface, fire egress, traffic, eyesore, and more).
-
Work with legislators in Sacramento (WHLA has already started actively doing this) to get existing legislation amended or redefined to restore our specific plan and disqualify high density projects in fire and environmentally fragile zones.
-
Contract with civil and environmental engineers to do a fire egress and evacuation plan study for the Girard Tract and the adjacent South of the Boulevard areas.
